Britannia Mill

 Project: Britannia Mill

Sector: Residential/Leisure

Location: Buxworth, Derbyshire

Project Value: N/A

Project profile – Land and buildings (3.9ha) originally housing a group of mill buildings of some historic significance now in mixed industrial/commercial use. The current owner wants to release the development potential of the land for housing.

Project sensitivities – Designated employment site, nearby Bugsworth Basin and Conservation Area status, land in the Green Belt.

Key Issues – Challenging the assumption that the employment site should be retained in employment use, challenging the local authority’s perception of the status of land and its purpose in the Green Belt.

Crowley Associates is working closely with the architects Slater Wilde Ltd to deliver a Masterplan for redevelopment of the whole site to accommodate a mix of residential and leisure. We are also promoting the land as a strategic housing site through the emerging High Peak Local Plan.

We have been responsible for developing and managing the planning strategy, instructing the remit of all background reports, inspecting their content and leading on their submission.
